Your private winter getaway
Macannamac offers a wide variety of winter recreation opportunity. Our location here in the highlands of Northern Maine provides great snow and ice conditions January through March. The seventy miles of maintained road into camp from "town" allows access only to those who wish to venture into the wilds of Maine and be witness to its wintertime beauty, quality fishing, and a true backwoods vacation.
Ice Fishing
Our camps and lodge are located on some of the best and most challenging ice fishing waters in this area. We have four cabins on Spider Lake in Township 9 Range 11, which is open to ice fishing. Many of our clients spend their entire stay fishing the shoals and deep waters of this lake for lake trout, brook trout, whitefish, cusk, and smelts. From Spider we maintain trails to Churchill Lake on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, and to Clear Lake in Township 10 Range 11. These make for great day trips from camp by snow sled.
Our camps on Haymock Lake provide a great opportunity to fish Big Eagle Lake of the Allagash. A four-mile snow sled trail allows for you to leave camp and be onto this outstanding brook trout fishery in just 15 minutes. From there you have the option to access Chamberlain Lake, Telos Lake, and Webster Lake. Our cabins also are accommodating to those who wish to fish Allagash Lake, a truly wilderness lake where no motorized vehicles and equipment are allowed.
Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing
Our cabins provide a cozy atmosphere for those looking to relax around a warm fire before heading out for an afternoon of cross-country skiing or snow shoeing. Discover a world of wildlife as you explore along the lakeshores, on old woods roads, or along our trails. Winter is a wonderful time to see gray jays.
Our cabin on Cliff Lake provides for a truly wintertime wilderness experience. You may choose to cross-country ski, snowshoe, or snow sled the five mile trek into camp, or inquire for transportation services from us. Enjoy a cozy cabin with a great view of the western horizon with complete solitude and privacy.
Snowmobiling
Macannamac Camps is able to provide a special opportunity for those looking to get away from the speed and hazards of the large trail systems. Designed for slow speed and purely pleasure riding, our trails allow for snow sled riding the "old fashioned" way, with beautiful winding trails thru the forest, following woods roads and connecting nine major lakes in our area.
Six miles for snowmobilers from Haymock to the Ghost Trains. Trail is groomed right to Eagle Lake.
Please note: Our camps and lodge are located on privately owned paper company lands. Recreational use of this area is a privilege and landowner rights must be respected. Snowmobiling on plowed roads is PROHIBITED, and crossing of roads must be conducted in a cautious and expedient manner. The success of our trails depends on the responsible conduct of those who wish to use them. We ask that you honor the requests made by us in regards to proper use of privately owned land upon your decision to utilize our trail system.
